What makes someone's opinion humble, anyway?

The admission that it may not be anyone else's opinion, and the desire not to force it down anyone's throat... Of course, one claiming it is their humble opinion will often procede to do just that, but we can't all go around being dictionary police, now can we? :)

Exactly, they're usually expressing it strongly, so it itsn't really that humble. Anyway, I rather enjoy being a dicitonary policeperson.

Heh, if I overanalyze this, a humble opinion is an oxymoron. An opinion means that you take a stance of having enough knowledge of some subject or concept to formulate a personal view. And there's nothing humble about that. Heh. Which, by the way, is a good thing. I like a bit of arrogance, a bit of self-assuredness, and I cannot stand self-abasement/effacement.

Right, but who in their right mind in our society would actually admit to being confident? Then they'll just get called arrogant.

heheh. There is no easy way out of this one other than not having an opinion or not expressing one ;)
